Knocked-Out Tooth: What to do?

Here are some helpful tips to save your tooth, from the time it comes out until you reach your dentist’s office:

  • Hold the tooth by the crown and NOT the root – Locate the tooth immediately. Carefully picck up the tooth and DO NOT touch its root, only the crown.
  • Rinse the tooth with clean, lukewarm water – Use lukewarm water to rinse off the dirt. DO NOT use any chemicals or soaps, DO NOT scrub or let the tooth dry up, and DO NOT wrap the tooth with tissue or cloth.
  • Replant the tooth in the socket if possible – If an adult tooth is knocked-out, reimplant the tooth quickly. Gently push it in its socket with your fingers or place it above its socket and close your mouth slowly. Keep it in place with your fingers or by biting down gently.
  • Always keep the tooth wet – The tooth must be wet at all times, either in your mouth or in a container.

  • Avoid fights that may cause impact to the face.
