Wisdom Tooth Extraction
Wisdom Tooth Extraction Leichhardt
For many, wisdom teeth can be impacted and cannot be left ignored – often requiring extraction.
The wisdom teeth are most familiar to the people when they get in their late teens or early twenties and older. They are called wisdom teeth as they come out on ages where you get more “matured”, hence the name.
When they grow properly, they are as good as your other teeth, causing you no harm and helping you chew food properly.
But when you experience discomfort and pain, see your Leichhardt dentist immediately.

When to See Your Dentist
Schedule an appointment to see your Leichhardt dentist if your wisdom teeth are causing extreme pain. We’ll check your teeth and recommend whether they need to be removed.
If your Leichhardt dentist thinks you may need to have your wisdom teeth pulled, they’ll usually perform an X-ray of your mouth. This gives a clearer view of the position of your teeth.
As with any dental problems, see your dentist immediately, rather than waiting for your next scheduled regular dental check-up.
The Wisdom Teeth Extraction Procedure
Wisdom teeth extraction is usually performed in young adults. By this time, your wisdom teeth may swell, and your Leichhardt dentist will usually recommend you remove it.
During the wisdom tooth extraction procedure, your Leichhardt dentist or oral surgeon will do the following:
- Make an incision through the gum tissue, exposing the tooth and bone.
- Remove the part of the bone that blocks entry to the tooth root.
- Cut up the tooth into sections if it’s easier to remove in smaller pieces.
- Remove the tooth.
- Cleaning the site of the extracted tooth of any debris from the tooth or the bone.
- Stitch the wound close to help promote healing.
- Place a gauze on the site to help control bleeding and to help a blood clot to form.
After Surgery Care
Patients who have undergone wisdom teeth extraction usually recover after one week without any complications. The duration healing period will depend on the complexity of the process, type of anaesthesia used, your recovery diet, and preventive measures for complications.
Keep your head elevated three (3) days within the extraction. Never let your head tilt below your heart.
Always remember that the site is a wound located in your jaw, and it needs healing. Use pillows to elevate your head when lying down.
